In this course, you will learn to sing the major and minor scales ascending, descending and in 3rds, you will learn to find and sing all the intervals of the major and minor scales starting on any note, along with other specific singing exercises. You will learn to aurally recognise the major and minor scales, and all 12 intervals played melodically. You will also learn to read rhythms consisting of whole, half, quarter and eighth notes and rests fluently. You will sing major and minor key melodies with the same note values mentioned above. You will also transcribe rhythms up to 4 bars long consisting of whole, half, quarter and eighth notes and rests.
This course allows you to earn credits towards the Pro Music Performance and Pro Music Production programmes at True School. If you choose the credit option and pass this course with a minimum overall grade of 50%, this course will be recognised and counted as completed in your study pathway when you enrol for a full fledged, on campus Pro programme at True School.

In this session, you will sing the major scale and learn a set of melodic exercises to help you recognise the notes of the major scale.
In this session, you will review the exercises taught last week, after which, you will learn a new set of major scale exercises to further increase your familiarity with the sound of the major scale.
Introduction to melodic dictation. You will learn how to identify 4-note fragments and how to visualise the contour of a melody, simply by listening to it.
Introduction to the concept of intervals. You will also be able to aurally identify Tones and Semitones, and other intervals from the major scale.
Introduction to note values up to the 8th note and rest. You will be able to read rhythms consisting of Whole, Half, Quarter and Eighth notes and rests.
Learn to transcribe short rhythms of up to 1 or 2 bars, consisting of Whole, Half, Quarter & Eighth notes, and rests.
Introduction to the concept of tones and semitones. You will work on singing and recognising tones and semitones.
Introduction to the minor scale, You will work on singing the minor scale, and on understanding it's construction.
In this session, you will focus on singing triads, in root position, and in the 1st and 2nd inversions. You will sing the triad exercise as taught in class.
Introduction to note values. You will work on recognising the values of whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes, as well as their respective rests.
In this session, you will work on recognising the tendencies of major scale degrees through specific exercises.
In this session, you will familiarise with intervals in music. You will work on using the major or minor scales to sing and aurally identify intervals.
In this session, you will work on singing major key melodies by reading written notation.
This session will be your final exam.
