It gives you a solid foundation across a range of DJ skills and equips you with the necessary music theory you will need to perform great mixes. DJ Skills will help you develop the confidence to play live in the genre(s) of your choice. Students receive plenty of one-to-one support from your instructor, DJ KD. This course also introduces Pioneer DJ's specialist DJ software Rekordbox, giving students an overview of the powerful features it offers.

Lessson 1: Equipment Overview
In the first lesson, you will learn how professional DJ equipment is set up, and what the main features are used for. You will learn about signal flow, troubleshooting, and how to use key features in performance.
Lesson 2: Cueing & Drop Mixing
Learn how to cue a beat manually by rocking the platter in time with a track. Learn how to set cue points on tracks and how to save them. Learn how to count beats, bars and phrases so that your transitions are musically sound.
Lesson 3: Beat Matching
Learn about the theory behind beat matching, and a range of techniques to help you mix tracks together seamlessly.
Lesson 4: Analogue Turntables
Learn about the history of analogue turntables, and how to set them up and use them properly.
Lesson 5: Beat Matching (Part 2)
Learn how to use the jog wheel and tempo slider in order to keep tracks in time. Learn about different dance music genres and their tempo ranges.
Lesson 6: EQ-ing
Learn scientific theory behind acoustic sound – what frequency and amplitude mean etc.
Learn how to use the EQ controls on the mixer during a mix - from slow/gradual changes to fast switch-overs, that will allow you to blend tracks together more smoothly.
Lesson 7: Rekordbox (Export Mode)
Learn how to set up playlists, edit beat grids and export tracks with Rekordbox (Export Mode) for use with Pioneer hardware.
Lesson 8: Transforming
Learn how to use the mixer’s faders creatively to ‘gate’ tracks.
Lesson 9: Music File Formats & Programming Mixes
Learn about the different types of audio file formats. Develop critical listening skills. Learn how to programme mixes more effectively, by analysing the structure of tracks.
Lesson 10: Live DJ Mix
Record/perform a mix in front of your fellow students and your instructor and receive feedback.
