Fundamentals of Indian Vocal Techniques is the start of a journey to developing good vocal technique through the internalization of effective breathing and listening techniques. You will be introduced to breathing and natural notes and an introduction to the Raag and basic improvisation.
This course allows you to earn credits towards the Pro Hindustani Playback Vocals programme at True School. If you choose the credit option and pass this course with a minimum overall grade of 50%, this course will be recognised and counted as completed in your study pathway when you enrol for a full fledged, on campus Pro programme at True School.

In this lesson, you will learn the human voice mechanism, various sound production techniques, correct postures, and its applications. You will also be introduced to Thaat Bilawal and Alankars in Bilawal, and you will begin developing a Riyaz technique that suits your voice.
Session 2: Riyaz Techniques
In this lesson, you will learn the application of Alankars in Bilawal, the definition of Alankars and you will also work on making simple Alankars.
Session 3: Creating And Mapping Intervals - Thaat
In this lesson, you will learn identify the small and longer intervals in Thaat Bilawal and create Alankars in Bilawal using intervals.
Session 4: Mapping Sargam Geet - Thaat Bilawal
In this lesson, you will learn Sargam Geet Ma Pa Dha NI with Teentaal. You will work on counting and singing teen taal.
Session 5: Sargam Geet In Aakaar With Laya Concept - Thaat Bilawal
In this lesson you will learn sargam geet in Aakaar, Laya, Dugun and Chaugun concept. You will also learn how to write Indian notations.
Session 6: Riyaz With Bilawal Dugun
In this lesson you will work on Riyaz. You will learn about Theherav i.e. intervals and Sargam Geet in Sargam and Aakaar - Dugun and Chaugun.
Session 7: Riyaz With Bilawal - Dugun And Chaugun
This lesson will focus on Dugun and Chaugun.
Session 8: Bilawal - Tigun Sargam And Aakaar
In this lesson you will learn notations and performance in Tigun.
Session 9: Revision - Alankars And Sargam Geet
In this lesson, you will revise everything you've learnt till date, with a quick ear training test.
Session 10: Session 10: Final Exam/Assessment Brief
Brief description of the final exam
Identify the role of the vocal folds, larynx and the articulators in human voice production
Maintain correct posture during practice and singing
Employ correct breathing exercises to enhance breath control while singing
Sing simple Bollywood repertoire effortlessly using appropriate breathing techniques
Develop an effective and personalised practice routine or Riyaz that suits your voice
Use alankars to add a personal character to your vocal performance
